The New York (N) Mets withstood an impressive performance by St. Louis shortstop Eddie Leon to defeat the Cardinals, 13-9, at Busch Stadium. Leon was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The win belonged to Cory Bailey in relief. His record improves to 6-5. Johnny Welch took the loss for St. Louis.

Joe Perez had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the top of the sixth for the Mets. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and New York (N) trailing 7-6, he hit a 2-run single.

"This team is real focused right now," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
