Cleveland turned a good effort from starter David Wells into a win over the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium. The final score was 5-1. Wells, now 10-15, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The Guardians now have a record of 77-84 with the win over Detroit.

Hank Leiber dealt the Tigers a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Cleveland leading 2-0, Leiber hit a 0-1 curveball for a 2-run single.
