Mariners Rally to Win, 5-4
|
The Seattle Mariners knocked off the New York (A) Yankees, 5-4, in 10 innings at Yankee Stadium. Mike Yastrzemski hit 1 single and 1 double, while driving in 2 runs. Seattle reliever Bobby Jenks picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Yorman Bazardo took the loss. Seattle has won 4 straight, while New York (A) has lost 4 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Don Mattingly came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing New York (A) pitcher Robert Garcia, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 5-4.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Tyler Jorgensen.
