Montreal Absorbs 9-5 Loss to Chicago (N)
|
Despite a fine performance by right fielder Rafael Palmeiro, the Montreal Expos lost to the Chicago (N) Cubs, 9-5. Palmeiro was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Tommy Milone, who finished 2nd in the NL in wins with 19 last year, was the winner. He's now 8-7. The loser was John Dopson. The Cubs, at 76-81, sit in 6th place in the National League.
Hack Wilson had a big 3-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago (N) leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a changeup from John Dopson, who is tied for 7th in the NL in quality starts with 17, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Cubs on top, 6-2.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Chicago (N) manager Matt Ida.
