Tigers Deal New York (N) 4-2 Defeat
|
The Detroit Tigers got a good effort from starter Ken Brett in defeating the New York (N) Mets at Tiger Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Brett yielded 2 runs over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 12-12. Sean Depaula recorded the save for Detroit, his 3rd of the season.
Merritt Ranew, the 18th overall pick in the 1999 draft, chipped in a 2-run home run for Detroit in the bottom of the third. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Brett.
The win puts the Tigers at 85-71, while the Mets drop to 110-46.
