Orioles Win at New York (N), 4-1
|
The Baltimore Orioles downed the New York (N) Mets, 4-1, at Shea Stadium. Stellar pitching by Sonny Gray had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 4th in the AL in innings pitched with 242.2 in 1997, handcuffed his opponent all game. Gray yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 11-14. The 5th-place Orioles have won 5 straight.
Baltimore used the hitting of Dick Stuart to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Orioles on top, 3-1. For the game, Stuart had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Gray.
