New York (N) Beats San Francisco, 9-6
|
The San Francisco Giants got a superb performance from center fielder Jon Jay, but the New York (N) Mets still won the game, 9-6. Jay was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Buzz Stephen got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 6. Picking up the save was Jay Powell. He's now 7 for 9 in save chances.
Dick Allen was 1 for 3 with 2 walks for New York (N). The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the top of the third. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Doug Rau. It was his 53rd walk of the season.
"We got the victory," said Allen. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
New York (N) is now 101-41, 12 games up in the National League.
