Detroit Beats Boston, 4-1
|
Detroit and Boston duked it out and the Tigers came out victorious.
The Detroit Tigers downed the Boston Red Sox, 4-1, at Tiger Stadium. Stellar pitching by Luke Weaver had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 5th in the AL in ERA with 3.30 in 1995, handcuffed his opponent all game. Chuck James was credited with the save, his 4th in 6 tries.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from right fielder Bobby Higginson. For the game, Higginson was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Detroit a 3-1 lead.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Detroit manager Don Dinsmore.
This win makes it 8 in a row for Detroit.
