Drysdale Lays Hammer Down in 5-1 Win
The New York (N) Mets downed the Cleveland Guardians, 5-1, at Shea Stadium. Stellar pitching by Don Drysdale had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 5th in the NL in wins with 16 in 1999, handcuffed his opponent all game. Getting the save was Bill Gogolewski, his 40th. The winning continues for New York (N), with the latest triumph making it 7 straight.

Drysdale, the winner, is now 20-3, after putting the clamps on the Cleveland offense. In 8.2 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 7 hits, while collecting 10 Ks.
