Cubs Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs beat the Seattle Mariners, 1-0, at Rogers Centre. Starting pitcher Sammy Ellis was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The Cubs now own a record of 66-74.
Tim Raines, who finished 3rd in the NL in on-base percentage with .438 in 1994, had a direct impact on the outcome. Raines contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to put Chicago (N) up, 1-0.
"Sammy showed what he's made of," said Chicago (N) manager Matt Ida.
