A 3-RBI performance from Eddie Mathews, who finished 2nd in the NL in on-base percentage with .392 in 1990, helped the Montreal Expos beat the New York (A) Yankees, 12-3. Montreal's record now stands at 89-49, placing them second in the National League.

The Expos benefited from a costly error in the top of the fourth. With Paul Janish at bat and Montreal leading 2-1, the New York (A) miscue allowed Montreal to plate 2 and take the lead, 4-1.

"Winning is contagious," said Janish. "We're looking forward to the next game."
