The Detroit Tigers dealt the Houston Astros a 6-4 loss at Tiger Stadium. Bobby Higginson, who finished 3rd in the AL in doubles with 48 in 1999, was the star on offense. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Joey Hamilton earned the win to go to 16-6. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. The Tigers improved to 70-65.

Higginson had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-0 slider from David Sanders, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Higginson.

"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Higginson. "And vice-versa."
