Doug McWeeny, who is tied for 4th in the NL with a 8.8 K/9 rate, imposed his will on the Mariners from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Montreal triumph. The first-place Mariners have lost 8 consecutive games.

Montreal won the game in part because of Adam LaRoche. The first baseman ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Expos ahead, 2-0. For the game, LaRoche had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
