Kent Stars for Mets in 8-5 Win
|
The New York (N) Mets downed the Montreal Expos, 8-5, at Shea Stadium. The Mets were led by Jeff Kent. Kent went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was former first round draft pick Paul Erickson. He tossed 110 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. Earning the save was Bill Gogolewski. He's now cashed in 38 of 40 save opportunities.
With New York (N) leading 6-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Kent hit a fastball from Lefty West for a 2-run double. It was his 33rd double of the season and put the Mets ahead, 8-5.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini.
The National League-leading Mets are 89-38.
