Tigers Pull Out Late Win, 4-3
|
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, dropping the New York (A) Yankees, 4-3, in 11 innings. Carl Hubbell, who finished 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 197 in 1999, was the difference-maker. Detroit goes to 66-60, New York (A) to 62-65.
Dan Johnson had a direct impact on the outcome. Johnson contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the 11th inning to put Detroit up, 4-3.
"It was a test of wills," said Don Dinsmore, the Detroit skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
