Yankees Lose, 6-4
|
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, downing the New York (A) Yankees, 6-4. On the mound for Detroit was right-hander Luke Weaver, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winner was Weaver. He threw 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Sean Marshall. Sean Burnett earned the save for Detroit, his 3rd.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Dan Johnson? The 28-year old first baseman Johnson stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Detroit up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
Despite the victory, Johnson was prickly with assembled media after the game. He said only that he was "happy with the win."
Detroit now sits at 65-60, while New York (A) falls to 62-64.
