Cleveland Beats Boston, 6-4
|
The Cleveland Guardians topped the Boston Red Sox, 6-4, at Fenway Park. Cleveland left fielder Derrick Gibson was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. David Wells, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-11. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Mike Jeffcoat got the save, the 28th for him this season.
In the top of the sixth, Glenn Hoffman delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and a runner on 3rd, the Cleveland shortstop hit a run-scoring single, putting the Guardians in front, 6-4.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Cleveland manager Barry Jackson.
The losing streak for Boston has now reached 4 games.
