Spirited fans greeted the Houston Astros for their clash with the Montreal Expos.

Adam LaRoche powered the Montreal Expos to a win over the Houston Astros. The final score was 5-2. The Montreal first baseman, who is tied for 2nd in the NL with a .673 slugging percentage, was phenomenal. He stroked 3 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. Danny Patterson earned his 13th save in 14 chances.

Montreal took a 4-0 lead on LaRoche's 34th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off David Sanders in the top of the seventh, propelled Montreal to the win.

"We understand we didn't play our best baseball," said losing manager Claybor Finley. "We'll shower it off and be ready to compete."

The win elevated the Expos to 79-44.
