The Baltimore Orioles got a sterling performance from pitcher Ron Kline, but the Boston Red Sox still prevailed, 4-3. Kline threw 5.1 innings allowing 1 run. Luis Avilan earned his 16th save in 18 tries. The Red Sox raised their record to 46-74.

Vern Stephens came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We took home the win," said Stephens. "What's not to like?"
