Astros shortstop Wil Cordero left his imprint on his team's 11-2 win over the New York (A) Yankees. Cordero went 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2 for Houston in the contest. By defeating New York (A), the 6th-place Astros improved to 52-61.

Wally Roettger had a big solo home run for the Astros in the top of the third inning. With Houston leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Kevin Ritz, who is tied for 7th in the AL with a 3.79 ERA, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Astros on top, 2-0.

"We need to keep playing good baseball," Roettger told the Houston Bulletin.
