The Montreal Expos racked up a win at Stade Olympique, bumping off the San Francisco Giants, 9-3. Ben Sheets, who started for Montreal, pitched effectively for his team. The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Montreal.

John Hale had a big 3-run home run for the Expos in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Montreal leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a slider from John Candelaria, who led the NL in innings pitched with 280.2 in 1984, and punished it. The result was his 30th home run of the season, which put the Expos on top, 6-1.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Hale said.
