White Sox Trip Yankees, 6-1, in Extra Innings
|
New York (A) got a valiant performance from pitcher Rich Nye, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago (A) White Sox. Chicago (A) won the game, 6-1. Nye threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was Bill Scherrer. He is now 2-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Their 62-43 record puts the White Sox second in the American League.
Chicago (A) used the timely hitting of Doug Dascenzo to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the White Sox on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said New York (A) manager Brett Fogerson.
