Chicago (N) Tacks 5-2 Loss on Miami
|
2001 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Miami Marlins.
The Chicago (N) Cubs converted a terrific effort from starter Jim Colborn into a win over the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field. The Cubs won the game by a final score of 5-2. Colborn picked up the win for Chicago (N), going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 8-10.
Billy Burns had a big run-scoring double for the Cubs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago (N) leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from Boom-Boom Beck, who is tied for 9th in the NL with a 7.8 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Colborn said after the game.
The Marlins have now dropped 5 straight.
