Giants Absorb 9-6 Loss at Shea Stadium
Despite a great performance by San Francisco first baseman Joe Hauser, the New York (N) Mets defeated the Giants by the score of 9-6 at Shea Stadium. Hauser went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. New York (N) reliever Jeremy Affeldt was the winner. His record is now 4-1. The losing pitcher was John Candelaria. Bill Gogolewski closed the game out for New York (N), earning his 32nd save.

Billy Werber had a big 2-run double for the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York (N) trailing 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from John Candelaria, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a double to left. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 5-4.

"We've got a great group of guys," Werber said, "and we're having fun right now."

New York (N) leads the National League by 12½ games.
