Miami Shut Out by Ortega
|
The Miami Marlins were almost helpless in their 1-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants and hurler Phil Ortega. Ortega kept the Marlins confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Ortega," Miami manager Bobby K said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 27-year-old right-hander had no walks and 9 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Ortega said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
For the season, Ortega has a record of 9 wins and 7 losses in 21 appearances. He has an ERA of 4.56 and has fanned 137 batters in 142 innings.
