In 11, Seattle Sinks Minnesota, 6-5
|
Rogers Centre was the site of quite a ballgame.
Seattle starter Andy Benes pitched well against the Minnesota Twins at Rogers Centre. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-5, in 11 innings. The win went to Bill Butland in relief, making him now 5-0. Jesse Crain took the loss for Minnesota.
With a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the ninth, Hubie Brooks delivered the knockout blow when he hit a run-scoring single to win it for Seattle. In the contest, Brooks was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"This place sure got loud," said Tyler Jorgensen, the Seattle manager.
The first-place Mariners, at 67-35, now lead their division by 7 games.
