Huntington Beach Blanks Reno, 3-0 Saturday, July 15th , 2000 The Reno Aces manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Huntington Beach Phoenix. The Aces were overpowered by Huntington Beach starter Jim Hughes, who hurled his club to victory, 3-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," said. Over 9 innings, Hughes blanked Reno on 5 hits with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Hughes said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." So far this season, Hughes has 11 wins and 4 losses and a 3.83 ERA. |
