Arias Gets 5 Hits
Monday, July 3rd , 2000
New Haven third baseman George Arias went down swinging at Speedsters Field, knocking out 5 hits even as his Ravens fell, 3-2.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Arias said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Madison Mallards. "No offense meant to Madison, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the third baseman's improvements, saying Arias spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Arias agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
George Arias grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Kyle Abbott in the 6th, doubled in the 7th, doubled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
This year, Arias is batting .308 with 12 home runs.
