Howard Tosses 8-0 Shutout Against Texas
Wednesday, September 27th , 2000
The Texas Rangers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Detroit Tigers. The Rangers were overpowered by Detroit starter Bruce Howard, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Kyle Shea said.
Over 9 innings, Howard blanked Texas on 5 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Howard said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Thus far this season, Howard has worked 199.1 innings with 148 strikeouts en route to a 12-10 record and a 4.52 ERA.
