San Francisco Hold Off Tigers, Olson Picks Up 300th Save
Sunday, September 17th , 2000
Garrett Olson had been especially quiet lately, not wanting too talk too much about anything. Olson knew that an amazing milestone was on the horizon for him. All the fabled bullpen ace needed was one more successful inning or two to achieve a special place in league history. The thought of it turned the talkative Olson silent.

But Olson's emotions erupted after he retired the Detroit Tigers to preserve the San Francisco Giants 2-1 victory and record the 300th save of his Fellowship of Respect and Trust career.

One of the Giants players told reporters, "It's an amazing feat. It's probably the only time that any of us will ever have a teammate get 300 saves."

So far in his career, Olson has nailed down 300 saves and held opposing hitters to a .223 batting average with 461 strikeouts and 208 walks in 647 innings. In 605 games he has a 45-62 record and a 2.64 ERA.
