Robinson Belts 3 HR for Mets
Sunday, September 3rd , 2000
As soon as the first ball went over the fence, everyone at Shea Stadium knew it -- Frank Robinson was in a groove. Fans showered the uber-popular Robinson with applause each time he came to the plate, and he rewarded them right back, finishing with a trio of home runs to help the New York (N) Mets top the visiting Texas Rangers, 13-1.
"It was one of the better days in my baseball career," Robinson said later. "I was on cloud nine out there and I think everyone was enjoying it."
Along with his three home runs, the 22-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"They always love it when Frank goes to the plate," New York (N) manager Jamie Dagostini said of the club's fan base. "But today was something else entirely."
Frank Robinson hit a two-run home run off Hector Noesi in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Mark Leiter Jr. in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Mike Soroka in the 8th.
Currently Robinson is batting .326 with 32 home runs, 112 RBIs and 109 runs scored.
