The Chicago (N) Cubs downed the New York (N) Mets, 6-4, at Shea Stadium. Jack Rothrock led the way, going 1-for-3 for Chicago (N). Chicago (N) now has a record of 56-39 with the win.
Rothrock had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-2 changeup from Bunky Stewart, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Cubs a 6-4 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Rothrock.
Chicago (N) manager Matt Ida commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
