Phillies Improve to 49-41 with 11-6 Win
The Philadelphia Phillies weathered a fine game by Montreal right fielder John Hale to upend the Expos, 11-6, at Veterans Stadium. Hale slugged 2 home runs. Joe Johnson, the winning pitcher, is now 5-5. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 3. The triumph puts Philadelphia at 49-41 for the season.

Ken Griffey went 2-5 with a double and a walk for Philadelphia. The 24-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring single off Kip Wells. It was his 103rd hit of the season.

"The vibe's good," said Philadelphia manager Jason Spiegel. "We've got to keep it going."
