Rangers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Mariners, 5-3
|
The Texas Rangers picked up a win at Rogers Centre, dropping the Seattle Mariners, 5-3. Foster Edwards, who led the NL in ERA with 2.43 in 1987, was the difference-maker. Texas pitcher Mike Soroka got the win, upping his record to 6-1. Bobby Jenks got the loss. Mike Schooler recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 10 for 12.
Texas used the timely hitting of Antonio Perez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rangers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Foster throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Texas manager Kyle Shea.
The win puts Texas at 31-59.
