Wright, Mariners Serve Up 13-7 Win
|
Glenn Wright added some punch to the Seattle offense, helping them outmuscle the Detroit Tigers, 13-7. In the game, Wright, who is tied for 6th in the AL in home runs with 21, went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Joe Moeller, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Seattle has now reeled off 8 straight wins.
Ted Kluszewski had a big 3-run home run for the Mariners in the bottom of the first inning. With Seattle trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a curveball from Bruce Howard, who led the NL in ERA with 2.69 in 1990, and punished it. The result was his 19th home run of the season, which put the Mariners on top, 3-1.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Seattle manager Tyler Jorgensen.
