Kelly Slams Door on New York (A), Notches 300th Save
Bob Kelly had been especially quiet lately, not wanting too talk too much about anything. Kelly knew that an amazing milestone was on the horizon for him. All the fabled bullpen ace needed was one more successful inning or two to achieve a special place in league history. The thought of it turned the talkative Kelly silent.

But Kelly's emotions erupted after he retired the New York (A) Yankees to preserve the Detroit Tigers 5-2 victory and record the 300th save of his Fellowship of Respect and Trust career.

One of the Tigers players told reporters, "It's an amazing feat. It's probably the only time that any of us will ever have a teammate get 300 saves."

Since breaking into the league, Kelly has claimed 300 saves and held opposing hitters to a .229 batting average with 639 strikeouts. In 673 games, he has a 56-51 record and a 2.97 ERA.
