Rockies Win in Extras, 4-2
|
The Rockies earned a hard-fought, 4-2 win in 10 innings at Shea Stadium. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from New York (N) pitcher Carl Hubbell. Hubbell went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The save was credited to Alex Carrasquel, his 4th. The Rockies, at 36-47, inhabit 8th place in the National League.
Colorado used the timely hitting of Mickey Hatcher to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rockies on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Hatcher. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
