Good production from third baseman Mike Schmidt helped the New York (N) Mets topple the Colorado Rockies, 11-4. Schmidt was 3-5 with 3 singles, while scoring 3 for the Mets. Bill Scherrer closed the game out for New York (N), earning his 4th save. With the win over Colorado , the Mets improved to 49-29.

The Mets got a big hit from right fielder Frank Robinson. Facing Colorado pitcher Cory Bailey in the bottom of the eighth, Robinson pounded a 3-run home run to left-center. His 17th home run of the season put the Mets ahead, 11-4.

"Enjoyed this one," Schmidt told the New York (N) Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
