Mets Clip Astros, 6-5
|
New York (N) catcher Charlie Moore contributed significantly to his team's 6-5 win over the Houston Astros. Moore, who finished 4th in the NL in triples with 9 in 1989, went 3 for 4 with no runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Mets. Bill Gogolewski, who led the NL in saves with 41 last year, nailed down the save. The Mets lead the National League by 2 games.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Beau Bell? The 31-year old right fielder Bell stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put New York (N) up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Bell said.
