Giants Handle Philadelphia, Snag 5-3 Win
|
The San Francisco Giants topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-3, at Eclipse Park. San Francisco left fielder Joe Lefebvre was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs. Phil Ortega, the winner, goes to 8-6. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Garrett Olson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 15 save opportunities.
With San Francisco trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Lefebvre hit a 2-run single off Philadelphia hurler Tommy Boggs. It was the 78th hit of the season for Lefebvre and put his team ahead, 4-3.
San Francisco manager Jake Fegan praised his team's "businesslike approach."
