Phillies Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Philadelphia Phillies faced a tough opponent in New York (A) pitcher Kevin Ritz, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 5-4 in 13 innings. Ritz went 10.2 innings and allowed 4 runs. Joe Johnson earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 3-5. Buck Marrow earned save number 1 this season.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Johnny Lucadello came to bat in the top of the 13th. Facing New York (A) pitcher Robert Garcia, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 5-4.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Philadelphia manager Jason Spiegel.
The 7th-place Phillies bumped their record to 34-37.
