Expos Rally to Win, 4-3
|
Marcus Giles did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to spare the Boston Red Sox an extra-inning, 4-3 loss to the Montreal Expos at Stade Olympique. Giles went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Montreal reliever Luis Avilan, who is a two-time All-Star, was credited with the win. His record goes to 3-4. Mike Fiers took the loss for Boston. With this game in the books, Montreal is 32-35, Boston 33-36.
Montreal got a clutch hit from Rafael Palmeiro. The left fielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Palmeiro said in his postgame press conference.
