Frey Powers Yankees Offense
|
Runs were plentiful at Yankee Stadium.
The game was a shootout. To win it, the New York (A) Yankees had to outpace the Miami Marlins. The final score was 11-9, Yankees. Neither team lacked hitting stars. For New York (A), second baseman Lonny Frey was the foremost. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The win went to Harry Feldman in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Dave Ford took the loss. Sean Marshall finished the game for New York (A) and earned his 2nd save.
Matt Walbeck had a big 3-run home run for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York (A) trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Shawn Hillegas and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 3-2.
"We're producers not directors," said Frey. "Produce a good swing. Can't direct where it goes."
The 7th-place Yankees now have a record of 29-37.
