New York (N) third baseman Mike Schmidt contributed significantly to his team's 14-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Schmidt, who is tied for 5th in the NL in bases on balls with 35, went 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Mets. The triumph puts New York (N) at 39-19 for the season.

With New York (N) leading 4-0 in the bottom of the second, Schmidt came up to bat against San Francisco pitcher Ben Hendrickson. Schmidt hit a fastball to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Mets on top, 7-0.

"We did the things that it takes to win a game," said Schmidt.
