Mets Win, 3-1, Versus Montreal
|
In a low-scoring game between the New York (N) Mets and the Montreal Expos, pitcher Carl Hubbell was masterful on the mound. The New York (N) left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Bill Gogolewski recorded the save for New York (N), his 3rd of the season. With the loss, Montreal drops to 2-4.
Dick Allen, who is a two-time All-Star, took Montreal hurler Luis Avilan deep in the bottom of the eighth. His solo home run put the Mets on top, 2-1. In all, Allen had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said New York (N) skipper Jamie Dagostini.
