The Chicago (N) Cubs did just enough to sneak past the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-4, at Wrigley Field. Chicago (N) pitcher Sammy Ellis, in particular, had a standout performance. Chicago (N) reliever Stan Wall snagged the win, upping his record to 2-1. Milo Candini shouldered the loss. Mike Paul finished to wrap up his 7th save.

Chicago (N) designated hitter Willy Aybar helped the Cubs go up, 4-3, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Aybar hit a run-scoring single off St. Louis pitcher Milo Candini.

When asked about his performance after the game, Ellis said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."

The Cubs bumped their record to 36-22 with this latest triumph.
