Cubs 3-1 Winners Over Seattle
|
The Chicago (N) Cubs received a superlative performance from starting pitcher Kirk Rueter, allowing them to bump off the Seattle Mariners, 3-1. Mike Paul finished to wrap up his 6th save. Chicago (N) is in third place in the National League with a record of 35-21.
Tim Raines had a big run-scoring double for the Cubs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chicago (N) leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 34-year old right-handed pitcher Dustin Hermanson and swatted a double to right. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.
"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Rueter told the Chicago (N) Citizen. "And padding the Chicago (N) win column."
