New York (N) Pockets 4-2 Win Over Cleveland

Soggy conditions did not keep New York (N) and Cleveland from playing their scheduled game.
The New York (N) Mets racked up a win at League Park, bumping off the Cleveland Guardians, 4-2. Carl Hubbell, who started for New York (N), pitched effectively for his team. Hubbell, now 6-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bill Scherrer closed the door for New York (N), picking up his 2nd save of the year.
Dick Allen, who led the NL in batting average with .385 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Allen contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put New York (N) up, 1-0.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Hubbell.
The win for the Mets raised their record to 35-18.
