In a low-scoring affair between the Chicago (A) White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitcher Kevin Appier was the difference between victory and defeat. The Chicago (A) right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 White Sox win. Marv Grissom earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. Frank Francisco finished to wrap up his 11th save.

Had Bryce Harper not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Harper hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the White Sox.

"Kevin gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Chicago (A) skipper Steven Ejercito.
