Ward Hits 3 Bombs in 9-7 Win
With third baseman Pete Ward leading the charge, the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Miami Marlins, 9-7, at Miami Park. Ward, who is tied for 9th in the NL in total bases with 105, slugged 3 home runs, while adding 8 RBI and scoring three times. Chuck Cary closed the door for Arizona, picking up his 7th save of the year. The first-place Diamondbacks have won 6 straight games.

Ward contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Arizona in the top of the ninth. With his team trailing 7-5, Ward took a fastball from Buck Farmer and stroked the home run to right-center. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Diamondbacks to leap in front, 9-7.
